Privacy policy

This policy explains what the Android app Langas: Learn Latvian and the website langas.online ("Langas", "we", "us") collect, how we use it and the choices you have.
1. Signing in
You sign in to the app with your Google account through Google Play Games. We receive and store your Google Play Games player ID and display name. We do not receive your password, contacts, location or files.
2. What the app stores
- Profile: your display name (you can change it) and, if you add one, a profile photo.
- Learning progress: scores, attempts, time spent in lessons, streaks, crowns and achievements.
- Social features: your friends list and friend requests, congratulations on achievements, and short messages you send to friends (up to 200 characters each).
- Reports: if you report a mistake in a lesson, the report text.
- Purchases: if you buy the full version, the Google Play order number and purchase token, so your purchase works on any phone.
- Session: a random token that keeps you signed in, stored on our server and on your device.
Answers you give in lessons are sent to our server to check them; individual answers are not stored.
3. Speaking exercises
When you use a speaking exercise, the app records your voice for that answer only and sends it to our own server, which converts it to text to check your pronunciation. The recording is deleted right after the check. It is not stored, listened to by people or shared.
4. Who can see what
Other players can see your display name, profile photo, total points, rank, level, streak, crowns and achievements, for example on the leaderboard or your profile. Messages are visible only to you and the friend you write to. Your player ID is never shown.
5. The website
langas.online uses no cookies, no advertising and no third-party analytics. To count visits, we store the page visited, the referring site and the time, together with a one-way hash of your IP address, so we can count unique visitors without storing the address itself. If your browser sends "Do Not Track", no visit is recorded. If you use the contact or deletion form, we store what you write and your email address to answer you.
6. Payments
Payments are processed entirely by Google Play. We never receive or store your card or billing details.
7. How we use data
- To run the app: sign-in, saving progress, leaderboards, friends and messages.
- To check purchases and unlock the full version.
- To answer your messages and requests.
- To keep the service secure, for example rate limiting against abuse.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
8. Service providers
- Google (Google Play Games, Google Play): sign-in, app distribution and payments, under the Google Privacy Policy.
- Our hosting and database providers: store the data described above on our behalf.
- Netlify: hosts this website.
9. Security
All traffic between the app, the website and our server is encrypted with HTTPS. Profile photos are stored privately and shown only through short-lived links. Access to the database is restricted to the developer.
10. Keeping and deleting data
We keep your data while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time. See Delete your account. Purchase records are kept only as long as tax and accounting law requires. Website visit records are kept for up to 12 months.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU under the GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, and to object to or restrict its processing. Email us to use these rights. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
12. Children
Langas is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes
We may update this policy. The new version will appear on this page with a new date.
